Before 1990 problems asked iit jee was not so difficult and competition was also moderate. Student had a few choice between books and no
coaching class culture were started. Personal tutions were the main source of iit jee preparation.

After 1990 iit jee become more tough in the sense of level of problems asked and exam copy were checked manually and step marking was also a part of marking in the examination. The most used Indian books were M L Khanna for maths, S L Gupta for physics and O P Agarwal for Chemistry. All these three books were published by J P N P Meerat. These books are the not only first good books but still are under use by many students. With the time these books became bulky edition after editions. Coaching classes was about to start and Agarwal classes Bombay and its notes were in the top options. Brilliant tutorials also was only providing notes for iit jee exams.

After this FIITJEE in Delhi started coaching and notes and it was the start of coaching notes.

The books other than Agarwal and Brilliant tutorial notes were used are Resnick and Halliday Physics, Irodov Problems in general physics.
and others. Still a good book like Resnick Halliday was not in chemistry and maths but ML Khanna never loosed its charm and utility. Many other books like Nelkon Parker and Krotov and university physics was also in use but at much lesser extent.

With the time problem asked in iit jee become a mix of simple and smaller with moderately difficult problems. Problem asked before 2000 was much longer and difficult and even single problem was of 10 marks out of 100.

Since year 2000 Coaching class culture and their notes were become popular. Coaching classes become money making business while golden era of great problems in iit jee were already passed out before coaching era.

Because it is originally a collection of physics problems from previous year paper of IPO (Inter. phys. Olympiads).
Students who are preparing for iit jee mains has no use but for iit jee advance also need not to solve this book as a must but if student searching a great book for his books library collection and need something challenging then they can fight with problems of this book.

After solving I E Irodov Problems one can try problems from this book not before it.

It will waste lot time and you will only able to read a problem and then need to sit a side and that not a feature of a problem solving student.
This is common case of this book but good this is that it has solutions given at last and your time will not go in vein and you will learn many new thing in physics that will help you to crack iit jee main and advanced exams

Most student think that iit jee is very tough exam having difficult problems which is a wrong concept. If all problems are tough then score will be very small and how it will differentiate between good and poor students. And if all problem are simple then scores will be very high same
situation will be there.

The level of problems asked in iit jee is changing with time year by year. In 1990s 100 mark iit jee paper contained 10 problems 10 marks each,
and a problem may be of full 10 marks or 2-3 part of a problem adding upto 10 marks.

It were numerical based and derivative type all mixed and objective problems was limited to iit jee screening exam only. Only screening exam qualifiers can appear in iit jee final exam.

Problem in final exam which was written type was very good and lengthy and one can say it were very tough. While with the time problems become little smaller hence less time consuming and less tough going but beauty of concepts was very well maintained.

In 2000s iit jee problems become more objective and other type and fully OMR based problems and answers sheets were started. It were simpler but still great.

Although problem from 1990s to 2010s become much simple and it is easy to score more and students now can solve more problems in iit jee paper.

Selection percentage in 1990s was 25% and now a days it is 35% or more. So level of problem is mixed and one should prepare accordingly.

In past papers variation in level of problems had noticed. Although It is not an alarming sitution but still a matter of consideration.

We have to analyse it properly, as in jee advanced 2015 chemistry paper was very tough, Only a few could solve more than 15 problems out of 20. Solving more and more problems is not an correct approach, but to solve as much problems as accuratly is best way. Most students reads 100% understands 90% syllabus. Feels comfortable in 80% does good in actually 70% in exam hall. Gets 20% error or silly mistakes and negative marking effectively reduce it to 40-50%. In a tough paper it is 30-40% only.  And final result may be even lower. To avoid such situation students must follow rule of accuracy, rather than maximum problem solving approach. If one student solves 60% problem of physics, maths and chemistry correctly then will be at best rank in iit jee 2017.

In year 2000 there were only few say less ten type of notes was available for iit jee exams. But after the rise of Kota coachings and other city iit jee coaching classes almost every institute claimed to have best iit jee preparation notes.

Most iit jee notes were prepapred by faculties of iit jee coaching classes and it was an extra work for teachers beside class room teachings.

Most notes were made from various Indian and foreigen auther books. And problems either were taken from books or past papers from various exams or framed by teachers.

It is found that many problems are from international books and problems framed by teachers are errorful and many answers were not correct.

The problem asked in iit jee past paper was only perfect problems.

All coaching classes claims to have high level problems which is usually framed by teacher, and such high level problems are part of a race to claim to have better iit jee preparation notes than others.

This race makes many lakhs of students fool every year and actual use of such problems has nothing. In Kota every year more than 50,000 students solve such high level iit jee problems and they could not solve many simple problems in iit jee exam.

So as for as level of problem is concerned all is not well. And most of coaching notes contain out of iit jee syllabus theory and student thinks
it is of high level which is a deal of wastage of time and money and nothing else.

Best is to read all syllabus carefully and then select books and study notes.

And it is best to make own notes for formulae etc. and refer standard books only.

It contains 1878 Problems of Physics some problems and about 200-300 is out of itt jee mains advanced syllabus. If some one solving 1200 problem will be a great achievement. Three writers solutions were also available in Indian market.

That book is has all types of problems that can be asked in physics and cover almost all types of concepts. The Level of problems in this book is matche iit jee exam problem.

Problems of I. E. Irodov are numerical type, figure based and needs use of integral differential calculus too.

So Most problems of I E Irodov problem book requires very sound knowledge of various parts of mathematics

I. E. Irodov contains concept based problems mostlt numerical type and not theoretical type problem are there.

In iit jee you can see all types of problems are asked. In last decades very good numerical problems were asked in that time Irodov helped very well.
But since in new pattern new types of problems are also asked that need good theory as well.

I E irodov problems in general physics is focused on problems has no theory portion. It has list of formula used only.
I. E. Irodov has also authered books of theory in physics that are available topic wise. In fact it is best theory books but syllabus goes out of iit jee in some topics.

In one word it is the book for a student want to test themself against the numerical problems in physics.

Although without good concepts of physics and sound knowledge of mathematics solving I E Irodov Problems in  General Physics is not possible.

Almost all coaching institutes and Indian writers borrowed problems from this book for their notes.

It contain no error in answers.

It is one of a kind book in the world for physics students.
I luv the this book. And I will keep a copy of it to heaven with me.
Student must try to solve the book in class 11th itself before we recommend to
make a sound knowledge of maths from our iitjee master maths lectures.

In last two years we found that many teachers are providing video lecture on solution of Irodov problems.

It is matter of concern wether to watch this lectures on physics it it useful for IIT JEE or not.

After consulting many teachers we come to point that it should be second priority after the iit jee past paper solutions.

Since any exam preparation needs knowledge of past papers first rather than other sources of physics problem video lectures.

Video solutions of I E Irodov problems may not be legally  fit. As it is an copyrighted book.
